Description
The Sermon of Vessantara is a rare Southeast Asian temple scroll illustrating the Vessantara Jataka, the Buddha’s final life before enlightenment and his perfection of charity. It shows Prince Vessantara and his family in traditional Siamese settings, painted in expressive 19th–early 20th century Thai folk style. Hand-painted in pigments and gouache on linen, it was created as a merit-making devotional object and mounted on original wooden poles for temple storytelling.
